NBA 2k15 Pre-order Preview

Hey guys, it's been a while. I just picked up my copy of NBA 2k15  and I'm here to let you know what to expect from the preorder package.

Let's start off with a photo:

That's ALL you're going to get from the PC preorder package. A case, and a plastic card with a CD key printed at the back. A sticker with a code to claim your preorder bonus is placed at the back of the case.  There's no physical disc included. (The pack includes a sports bottle though, which will arrive in a week or two. It doesn't really make up for not having a CD but a freebie is a freebie) .That sucks for people like me who have slow internet connection. The game is a 40GB download from Steam, so it's probably gonna take a couple more days before I actually get to play the game.

That's it for my run through on the NBA 2k15 preorder pack. I'm obviously just doing this to rant about having to download the game as opposed to installing it from a CD. I hope you guys don't get too shocked (the way I did) when you get your copy of the game. Peace!

A 3.5k MMR player's take on the Dota 2 6.82 suspect test

Okay, so before you all go crazy, I know already that Goblin Techies is going to be released next patch, but that isn't what I'm personally waiting for. I'm waiting for the 6.82/6.82b balance patch to help get rid of all of the Tinkers and Faceless Voids in my games. But if you need to know any news about techies, here's what you need to know:

  1. He lays down mines that can damage, or cc someone
  2. He suicide attacks for an obscene amount of damage
  3. He gets a new ability that puts down a sign. It does nothing except for that. Seriously. (Mind games!?)
Anyways, if you don't wanna walk into random mines or whatever, just choose heroes with summon fodder, rush necronomicon, or just pick Zeus. The live patch for them should be in by next week.

Anyways, the patch notes released 4 days ago (sorry, I've been on hiatus lately due to some travel issues) is found on dotadb.gameguyz.com is still being suspect tested, but most of the changes aren't very game breaking.

Knowing how Dota generally balances everything, we can expect there to be a power creep forward for all of the heroes that have been under picked. The most notable changes here are Necrophos and Zeus, while Vanguard gains a much needed buff. Ogre Magi also gets a new multi cast x5 chance, and Pudge gets harder to kill at level 1 because they gave him 35% base magic resist. Faceless Void gets a slight nerf to Chronosphere cast range, and Tinker's cooldown on rearm is now 10 seconds.

There aren't that many huge changes, but they seem like they're just enough to turn every game into an instapick Zeus mid. Because really, Zeus was never picked before, and now if you look at his changes, HE LITERALLY BECOMES A GOD.

Zeus
-Lightning Bolt now purges buffs from any enemy hit
-Static Field now affects everyone hit by Thundergod’s Wrath regardless of distance from Zeus
-Thundergod’s Wrath will now hit invisible units
-Thundergod’s Wrath sight duration increased to 5
-When the mighty Zeus is slain, his killer is struck by the Thundergod’s Wrath 5 seconds after killing him.
I am quivering in fear from these changes, because Zeus having a purge (spell that gets rid of buffs) available to him at level 1, Thundergod's Wrath being buffed so much, and a revenge kill mechanic being introduced, it's just crazy to see how much Valve wants him to become competitively viable. Or maybe *Merlini might have requested for these changes to happen.

Necrophos on the other hand, is going to be really annoying to lane against. It's like having half of Enigma's midnight pulse on you while you're in lane. On top of that, they're increasing his sustain in mid. He was never one of those popular heroes, but it seems like he might just make a comeback with these changes.

Vanguard becomes a worthwhile item at last! It's probably worth picking up after 20 minutes now, since it adds so much more HP now.
-Bonus HP increased to 280
-Damage block increased to 50 for melee holders and 25 for ranged holders
-Damage block reworked slightly
Now has a 60% chance to block damage from creeps and a 100% chance to block damage from towers, Roshan and heroes.
The 10 second rearm on Tinker makes the hero easier to punish for failed rearms, and Faceless Void's nerf to his ultimate's range makes initiation that much harder to pull off.

There isn't that much to really comment on, since the notes are incomplete, but the announcement of All Random Deathmatch (ARDM) is a sight for sore eyes. We need a new game mode before the whole giff diretide thing happens again this year, and ARDM is the best mode ever!

Anyways, that's all for now! I'm still busy sorting out travel issues, but I thought I'd drop by and make some sort of post about the suspect tests going on in Dota 2.

Steam Sale: Japanese Indie Festival

Good early morning guys! It's like 1 AM here and lucky for you guys, I'm dedicated to looking for different sweet deals to give to you guys! So for this week, we have a special Steam Sale for everyone! It's Steam's Japanese Indie Festival, in celebration of the week of Summer Comiket! If you don't know already, the Summer Comiket is one of Japan's major expos regarding comics, mangas, and indie games. So here are the games tabulated!

To be honest, I'm a little peeved at the timing of this sale, because I bought 100% Orange Juice at full price, but it's still a sale nonetheless, and all of them are available for sale on Steam until August 19. So here are the games that I can suggest from personal experience:

  • Cherry Tree Comedy Club This is a cute little game that features a high school girl trying to recruit her friend, and some other people into joining a stand up comedy club. While it's not exactly one of the longest games, it's definitely enjoyable. You could say that this is a dating sim without the dating, but you're trying to befriend other characters in order to coerce them into your club. Definitely worth trying out at the very least.
  • 99 Spirits To be honest, I don't really recommend this game. The controls are iffy, and the fighting is... really bad. It's a game about a girl trying to defeat a monster that took her parents away from her. In order to get to that monster, she has to battle every day appliances. It's a word game... I don't really know how to describe it.
  • 100% Orange Juice Is a really great game. And if you don't get the name, it's called 100% RNG Chance. Really, this game is so RNG based it's completely balanced because of how everything enver goes in your favor. I'd call this a Mario Party that will not fail to piss you off or make you happy. I highly recommend it. You can either buy it on steam, or get it for 50 cents on the Groupee's build a bundle. I HIGHLY recommend this game.
  • One Way Heroics I love this game. I reviewed it before, but it's certainly worth the cash. It has lots of replayability and you're a hero that's trying to defeat a demon lord. Really, this game is a must try, or even a must buy. I've bought this game twice and I've given my extra copy to a friend. If you didn't know, it's also available on the Humble Bundle Weekly sale for a dollar (You'll also get 2 other games)
  • Vanguard Princess To be honest, I'm not really into fighters, but I'm told that if you're a fan of the BlazBlue series, you're going to like this. I own this game because it was part of a pack, but I never really understood how to play it.
  • World End ECONOMiCA episode.01 This is a game I'm going to pick up, solely because it was made by the creators of Spice and Wolf. The art is pretty nice and the soundtrack is amazing. It's a visual novel, so it's heavily story based. Hopefully it's worth the purchase.
Anyways, I'll be off for now. There are so many sales, yet so little money. Hope you guys buy wisely!

UPDATE: I just purchased La-Mulana because apparently it's a smart game that you have to keep a pen and paper with you and it'll also make you feel stupid. I've been told that if a tablet tells you to not read it twice, don't read it twice. Interesting premise, I'll make a review of this when I can.

Green Man Gaming: Top 50 games sale #31-40

Hey guys! Karl again here with another fantastic game sale up your door from Green Man Gaming! Unfortunately, along with this post, we found out that the games only go on sale 10 at a time, so if you were hoping to grab sale numbers 41-50, then I'm sorry to say that it's too late.

Anyways, these the games available for the next few days are all part of the Top 50 Games Sale!

Looking at this specific set of games, they are all full of nostalgia, specifically Civ 3, Portal and Left 4 Dead; however, I would only pick up Portal out of those three, because it seems like the only game that retained it's steam sale value. The rest of the games are fan favorites such as Batman, Civ V, Half Life, Deus Ex and Age of Mythology. And if you haven't noticed already, this specific set of sales caters towards the whole idea of the nostalgia trip.

  • Batman Arkham City GOTY While I'm not a huge comic fan, nor do I really play super hero games, I've been told that this game is well worth the time invested in it. It's been said to be one of the greatest story telling games that would make you fall in love with Batman and his universe. If you've played Batman Arkham Asylum, you need to play this installment as well.
  • Portal You know, having an AI tell you what to do, and make apathetic remarks to you is pretty awesome. This game is a first person puzzle game, and I've played through this game a good 10 times, and it's always enjoyable to play. The end music is nice, and it really makes you wonder about what is really going on. Because really, you just have an AI bullying you throughout the game while you're trying not to die. But hey, at least you'll get some cake out of this right?
  • Total War: Shogun 2 While it doesn't include the DLC for this game, it's a Total War game, what do you think it's about? You're going around a map doing missions and quests, all while building your army and engaging in wars with other people! If you like big action scenes and watching characters beat each other to a pulp, then this game is just the game for you.
  • Civilization 5 Complete Okay guys, this is my favorite game out of this set, and as far as I know, it is at it's historically lowest price ever! I mean, at this price, it's A STEAL. I would recommend anyone who's a fan of the Civ series to pick this up like right now. If you've never played the game before, I'll give you a short version of the game: Pick world leader, start from farming communities then raid now nukes on everyone. It sound pretty awesome doesn't it? And did I mention, IT INCLUDES ALL OF THE DLC!
I can't really comment on all of the games, seeing as I haven't played them all, but I hope you all save some money thanks to this article! And if you want to save even more money, don't forget to use the voucher O7CNAE-Z1Y29P-QZAJ1I for an additional 20% off your purchase!

Top 50 Games Sale

Once again, this is Karl bringing you big sales whenever they pop up! Good night!

End of the week game sales

I figure that I''m going to make this a regular thing maybe a few times a week, but along with an overall post every Saturday. Now let's get to the important part: Game sales.

GMG has rolled out two sets of incredibly amazing deals called the 50 Games you must play list, and the 30 Indie Games you must play. I'm not saying that they aren't incredibly cliche titles, but the game collection is very impressive. Along with Shinyloot's 101 Days of Summer, there are really great prices you can grab good games on.

The first deal I'd like to spotlight are the GMG sales

(courtesy of /u/moo422)

While the prices aren't at their lowest price ever, they're all set at a pretty good sale. Just by eyeing this list, I can recommend a few titles for you guys to pick up.

  • The Walking Dead Season 1 will contain all 5 episodes of the series, and I've heard that it has an amazing story line.
  • Borderlands 2, because it's a very worthwhile FPS, and its sequel is coming out soon (I think it's called Borderlands 2, the prequel before the sequel).
  • F.E.A.R. is a game that has aged AMAZINGLY and can still run in 1080p and freak you out to a good extent.
  • Sid Meier's Pirates just because it's a classic that I grew up with. Also, you're a pirate.
  • Bastion has an amazing narrator, and the art style will grab your attention.
  • The Binding of Isaac for the replayability value
  • Super Meat Boy simply because it's a platformer that has the tendency to piss you off, all while not being impossible to beat at all.
For the 100 days of summer sale, I made a graph, but I accidentally deleted it and I don't want to make it again, but it's only up for 4 more hours as of this post. I've only played one game on this list and I can only recommend that.
  • Europa Universalis IV, or the ever so called map painting simulator. It's basically a game of diplomacy and building your civilization. I know it sounds really really boring, but it's really really worth it, or maybe I'm just a sucker for games that revolve around diplomacy.
Anyways, that's all for this week on game deals. I hope some of you picked up some of these games that I recommended, or the Street Fighter upgrade this week! Have a nice day, and happy gaming!

Cavern Kings: A Game About Digging Your Own Grave

Cavern Kings is an infinite action platformer game by indie game developer and pixel artist, Vine. This game is inspired by Vlambeer's "Super Crate Box" and the increasing difficulty aspects of "Risk of Rain" which are the first things I noticed about the game. It is currently going under public beta and you can get the game here. It will be available for PC, Mac and Linux once the game is complete.

Some of the basic game features are 4 playable characters with their own special abilities. In the beta, you can only use one which makes it interesting to see what the other characters can do.

Randomized terrain and monster generation is another feature that is interesting simply because things can get crazy in an instant. In my first few runs in the game, The first and only time I encountered a boss was in the 3rd floor then I encountered a floor wherein I have to find a key before I can go any further. By the time I got to this floor, the amount of monsters that were spawning was already quite large so it took me a while to get the key and carry on.

The weapons are all very unique from the distance of the projectiles to the number of blocks you can break through. From what I noticed with the melee weapons or the digging tools, attack speed is also a factor. It makes it a bit logical which is great for any game but it also makes the game more balanced.

One of the best things about this game is how the game teaches the players the basic controls which is by putting the player in a safe place to try things out without any danger.

The items you first pickup seem like a melee weapon which is also used for digging and a ranged weapon mainly used for killing monsters. It can also be used for reaching the TNT when they're in hard to reach places.

I like how it gives you some variety by being able to use both melee and ranged weapons. One interesting detail about these weapons is that the ranged weapons stack. I don't know how it exactly works but it sure sounds interesting.

A feature that isn't in the beta is the Bestiary and Logbook. I look forward to this because these give it more replay value as some gamers would want to complete it.

One of the best aspects of the game is the fine pixel art and the smooth animations. You can really see the hard work put into the pixel art just by looking at how crisp and fine it is. One of the best animations in the game is the weird worm-like monster that flies in and out of the screen.

There are a total of 50 powerups in the game. I know it doesn't sound like much but it's more than enough to keep things interesting as players progress.

One of the things I like about this game is the chiptune-influenced soundtrack by Ryuno. His music reminds me very much of Anamanaguchi's music especially the ones for the Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game soundtrack. Below is a demo of Ryuno's work for Cavern Kings.

I love the game. It's unique in it's own way, I love the challenge it offers and I can't wait to see more monsters and the other playable characters and weapons. It may not be the greatest game of 2014 or whenever it comes out but it sure is something to look forward to.

The game has been 100% funded on Kickstarter and it's already in Steam Greenlight. Although the game is already funded, it hasn't been Greenlit by the community yet.

If you like it, please do pledge in the Kickstarter page, Green light it, Support Vine. Other than helping the guy out, it could also get the game out there sooner.

Weekly Humble Bundle: Japan Edition!

It's that time of month again, where Humble Bundle releases an exceptionally good bundle that even I'd praise from all of the replayability the first tier offers. The games offered here are the following:

The wonderful thing about Humble Bundle is that when you purchase the games, it's Pay What You Want (PWYW) but you need a minimum of $1 in order to get the official game keys accredited to your account. This is one of the reasons why my Steam Library is so vast in its collection, the Humble bundle always seems to turn up whenever I have extra cash lying around. This time, I only had enough extra cash to purchase the first tier of this bundle, but if I had scraped up an extra 5 dollars, for example, I would have gotten enough to get the second tier in addition to the first tier of this bundle.

So, looking at the games, I can see two familiar games that I had played before in this bundle, namely One Way Heroics and Ys Origin which are both AMAZING GAMES. If anything, I'd tell you all to buy tier two just because Ys Origin is there, and the Ys series is fantastic on its own.

One Way Heroics is kind of a side scrolling dungeon crawler where each map is randomized and you're running away from the darkness in an attempt to slay the Demon Lord to save the world. Cliche, I know, but it's still a really fun dungeon crawler that has a nice array of achievements and challenges available to you.

Ys Origin is your typical JRPG with a good storyline, and of course boss fights. There are three original campaigns for you to play, and an extra that you need to unlock in order to play. The story line follows these two beings who are captured in order to preserve an artifact from being taken by the demons. The "protagonists" are basically people who live above the demon wastelands in a utopia of some sort, until the possibility of it toppling over presents itself. Each one of the protagonists have a different perspective on the game, so it's highly recommended that you play them all.

These are the only reviews I can give so far, but I'm downloading Unholy Heights and GIGANTIC ARMY right now. My first impressions for this bundle? Even the tier 1 is great. Definitely a buy for me.

Valve's Source 2 engine's supposed soft-release

With Valve releasing the workshop tools for Dota 2, users have been speculating that the release is not just a workshop release, but rather the publicization, or soft-launch, of the Source 2 engine that runs Dota 2. This brings into question, will map making be better than Warcraft III?

The current public understanding of this being the soft release of the Source 2 engine is that every file that would share a name with source is marked as '...2' such as 'engine2.dll', 'vconsole2.exe', etc.

Reddit user /u/darkmio said that when you open a map in Hammer, the map editor for Dota 2, it asks for .vmap files, which is the alternative to '.vmf (Source 1.0)' files.

There is a new Key-Value format that is type safe that looks like this:

The engine supposedly calls these 'Scheme Files', written by CSchemaTextWriter. This script allows different .dlls to load and render different assets. This is different from Source 1, because there were a large number of things in the engine libraries, which indicates that there would be a significant amount of engine work to split the messy constructs out of the engine and into their own libraries.

Notice 'source2' in the path

And if you look at the Hammer Map Editor, you can see just how powerful it is. However, the PC requirements are pretty high compared to the normal map editors. You'll need a 64-bit version of Windows, a Direct3D 11 compatible GPU, and you'll need to opt into the Steam Client Beta. If your PC fulfills all of these requirements, then you can use the Hammer client to create new maps to your liking, and uploading them onto steam for other players to try.

I, for one am looking forward to what kinds of spectacular maps will be created here, as well as the old maps of Starcraft and Warcraft being recreated. So... who's up for some footman frenzy?
